Macrobid is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial drug used for infection of the genitourinary system (pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis) caused by microbes sensitive to nitrofuran, as well as the prevention of infections during urological examinations.

Composition and analogues of the drug.

The main active ingredient in the composition is nitrofurantoin monohydrate.
Analogues of the drug: Furadonin, Furadonin Avexima, Furadonin Reneval, Furadonin Lekt.

How does the drug work?

Macrobid has a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect in urinary tract infections. Effective mainly in urinary tract infections.

How to apply and dose.

Apply before meals with warm water or milk.
The dose for adults is 50-100 mg, the frequency of use is 4 times / day. The daily dose for children is 5-7 mg / kg in 4 divided doses. The duration of the course of treatment is 7 days. If necessary, it is possible to continue treatment for another 3 days (only after urine control for sterility). When conducting long-term maintenance treatment, the dose of nitrofurantoin should be reduced.

Side effects and contraindications.

Side effects: chest pain, cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, allergic reactions, headache, nystagmus, dizziness.
Contraindications.
Impaired kidney function, renal failure, pregnancy, hypersensitivity, heart failure, chronic hepatitis, breastfeeding.
